Christmas gifts to washington

In both Russ' family and mine we have a rotation of people we give to. This year we gave to Russ' sister Kirsten and her family. For Kirsten I made her this accordion book out of a pair or shoes she gave William as a hand-me-down a few years ago. When she gave them to me she told me she thought of having them bronzed because she loved them so much, but decided to give them to us. When I got home I set them aside and waited to for the time to make this and the opportunity to give it to her. I made it blank so she could put her favorite pictures in it.

For her husband, Ted, I am going to make a t-shirt quilt out of his old t-shirts once I get them in my hands.

My nephew, Grayson, is really into Rubik's cubes and really into Obama. So what else would I make?

I gave it to him all messed up so I wonder how long it will take before he knows what it is.

My other nephew Hal likes cowboys and skateboarding a lot so I made him this reversible bag.

It even has pockets inside.I was pretty pleased with it since it is the first bag I have really ever made. I might just make some more.

I wish I could have given these to them in person. These guys are always so much fun to be around.

  1. You are so talented Debbie! What a blessing you use your gifts to bless the lives of others. I know that ANYTHING you've made me goes in my treasure box and is love and looked at all the time. Everything you made this Christmas is beyond precious and thoughtful.

  2. Debbie you are so talented! I only wish I could do half the things you can do! It is obvious that you put a lot of thought and love into what you make. So... here is a project I am going to try http://www.azcentral.com/members/Blog/JaimeeRose/42325

(If it doesn't come up, its the entry titled "Yo" on her blog)

Jennifer + trying to be crafty = scary... but I am going to try. These look pretty easy, and I think they would make darling little headbands, hair ties and hats for my girls! What do you think?

  3. Debbie -- these gifts were the highliht of Christmas for me. I cried the moment I saw the shoes before I even had any idea what you had made out of them. And I cried when I talked to mom and tried to describe it to her. It is precious. It will be fun to sit down with Ted to look for pictures to go on the little pages.

And both boys _love_ their gifts. Grayson saw immediately that it was an Obama cube and has been intrigued by how much harder it is than a regular cube (because it's not color-coded in the same way).

Hal was thrilled by his ultra-cool bag. He has it with us in Idaho right now. He immediately declared it would replace his backpack for school. Thank you, thank you for all the love and talent that went into them!
