Day 21 Work it!

Today we were supposed to put together any outfit we desired using our new found knowledge. I decided to give myself an extra challenge and see how many challenges I could squeeze into one. The answer: 13! that is more than half (pats self on back). And I really like this outfit. Lets see what I did, shall we?
(lets just pretend that $ is a 4)

And that's a wrap!

My feelings about this challenge:
It really got me thinking about what I wear and got me creating outfits I never would have thought of in a million years. It was kinda long and some days I would think, "I don't have time for this!" So a shorter challenge would be a good idea. Also there were a few times I wanted to do a challenge again so maybe it would be good for weekend to be able to do a repeat of your choice.
This challenge also taught me that I would like my clothes better if they fit better so maybe the next challenge should be a daily yoga challenge. I hope you are not to sick if seeing me. Back to regular posting!

Day 20

Sunday shoes and adorn your head (in case the wig doesn't count). I wore my happy little (goldish) yellow flats. Lesson learned, I need to wear socks with these.

Another lesson learned: if your favorite cuffed jeans still don't fit you, cuff your other jeans. This may seem like a no brainer, but I am an easy dresser. I just wear what is easy without thinking about it. This challenge has really made me think.

I also wore a bow in my hair to compensate for day 19.

And that jacket, that amazing jacket is borrowed (Kayleen, it is yours right?). I just came across it and had to throw it on for the picture. You know I am not wearing that in this heat! But sometimes I like to pretend I am awesome. Next up, the last day!

Day 19

The challenge today was to adorn your head so I wore a wig...

...at the thrift store.smile. My kids did too. We were laughing so hard at each other.

I mean, seriously. Joseph with old lady hair is too much.

And Gracie had me thinking Marie Antoinette ( Antoinette was my French name in high school).

So I don't know if it counts for the challenge. I could have done it (I wear ribbons in my hair all the time) but when I got home we washed out hair and I have to let mine air dry with nothing in it. By the time it was dry I was so angry and in such a bad mood I was not even thinking about the challenge so, I hope this counts.

Day 18

Statement jewelry. I don't have a lot of jewelry so I wrapped a belt around my wrist.

I actually really liked this look, but then remembered some necklaces I got at an estate sale that I have been meaning to sell. I decided to wear 3 of them to make sure they made a statement.

I will have to save the belted wrist for another day. Thanks for the inspiration Elyse

Day 17 repair it!

I bought this shirt knowing the it plunged too low at the neck line and that I could easily fix it.

But just because I can easily fix it does not mean I will.

I am glad for this challenge cause I got the shirt out and it took less that 5 minutes to fix.

There is no way to show a close up of what I did without a close up of my chest. Sorry. I unstitched that swoopy thing from the inside, then stitched in-between the boobs to go higher. And then reattached the swoop thing higher on the inside. Success.

Day 14 - copy cat

Today I am supposed to copy an outfit from a blog or magazine, so I went to my style board on pinterest and this is what I chose...

source

And this is how I did it...

Using my remix shirt!

I really like this outfit, but I think maybe this skirt would be better if it was a bit shorter.

Day 13

Neutral with a pop of color. I hope my skinny little belt counts as a pop.

I bought this dress at my first basement sale from Angela of seesaw designs.

It has a belt made of the same fabric as the dress and I like that but I think I liked wearing a colored belt with it more.

I had a great weekend with two parties and lots of friends. It was great. Now it is time to start preparing for the busy months ahead. Things won't slow down for awhile.

Day 12 Dressing up jeans

So I dressed up my jeans with a cardigan as a shirt and a belt.
I am mainly just happy about these new jeans I got at last chance yesterday.

They are high waisted (no one is happier about this new trend than me) and soft and comfy. And I think they are cute. I can't wait to wear them all winter long.

Yesterday night I was out to dinner with Connie and Mimi for Connie's birthday and we got to talking about what has been keeping Mimi so busy.
Have you seen the Mormon Bachelorette?
Mimi has been editing for it and doing a wonderful job. She told me about this seasons first date and how they went to Liberty Market (where we ourselves were eating) and skateland (where I was on Wednesday night). I went home and watched it and ended up watching like 5 episodes (they are short, like under 10 minutes). It was funny and sometimes painful to watch (dating is just weird), and I am excited to get caught up and see who she picks. Did you know the couple from season one actually got married? I will admit that I was surprised it worked. If you want to watch season three and talk about it with me, I won't complain.

Day 11

Wear a skirt or dress. Easy for me. I wear skirts all the time. Today I am wearing my remix shirt and my latest thrift store find. A wrap around skirt and it is green and has pockets. Pretty much perfect for me.

Right now I am in the car heading out to Last Chance for shopping with my mom and Connie (and my kids). Today is all about Connie cause today she has been living for 30 years!!! It is crazy to me how all of a sudden 30 is not old. At all. Before I know it I will be saying that about 80.

Day 10 - A closet orphan

This shirt is my closet orphan. I don't even remember the last time I wore it, but I can't get rid of it because I love it! My sweet sister in law got it for me because it reminded her of me and she was right. I rarely wear it because it has become a bit snug. Especially over the hips.
It just goes straight down and doesn't go over jeans, it would just ride up. But now that I have learned I can tuck things in, I can wear it.

Here is an unfiltered picture of the print. I really love the tiny green flowers and the big brown buttons.
I am so happy to have saved this closet orphan. I will definitely wear it more often.
I also realized that when most people take pictures of their outfits they say where things came from. Let me just say right now that this is one of the only 3 shirts I own that were purchased new and not thrifted. And I think I only have one pair of pants and 2 dresses that were not thrifted, but they were bought long ago when I sometimes shopped the Banana Republic sales (they are all from there). So most everything you see is from a thrift store.
I really love doing this challenge. Already it has increased my closet options by like 50. I am thinking of things I never would have before. I am tired of taking pictures of myself. There is way too much of me going on on this blog right now. Bear with me.

Day 9 monochromatic

I actually had two outfits today. I don't really count the first one, but I was going to be running errands all morning and I knew it would be hot. So wore a pretty blue outfit ( pun intended).

At least it was cool temperature wise.
Tonight I went to have an interview to have my temple recommend renewed.

I wore all green. I love green. I also love having temple recommend interviews. I love having the opportunity to say what I believe. I love knowing what I believe and I love that I can go to the temple.

Day 8 mixing casual and fancy

I am not crazy about this outfit, but I like it. I think. I wish the colors were a little different but I had to work with what I have and I got to the point where I could not spend any more time in front of the closet.
Mixing fancy with casual really got me to think outside the box and I think it will really help me create outfits in the future. I chose a hooded shirt. You don't get much more casual than that.

And I paired it with a pleated skirt and I don't get much fancier than that. I also double belted it so I guess I could have worn it for the last layering accessories challenge. I just needed another color and a belt did the trick.
By the way, this used to be one of my frumpy shirts. Glad to know it can go the other way.
Today I met with some ladies to map out the joy school we will be starting for our preschool age kids. When I say joy school I really just mean a rotating home preschool. It should be great. I really like the ladies I am doing this with. And I know Gracie will love it cause she really wants to go to school.

Mission bells

Day 7 layer accessories. This one did not come easy for me. I don't really wear jewelry. Necklaces drive me nuts, bracelets are always too big for my tiny wrists. Sometimes I wear rings, but I usually just forget to use accessories.

This morning I woke up with this song in my head.

I listened to it a couple of times and Russ and I danced to it in the kitchen, in our pajamas. It was awesome. I decided the song reminded me of my Grandma. She loves a good mariachi band.

So I decided to wear my necklace that was once my grandmas and the one Connie had made for me with my grandma's picture on it. My kids love it when I wear the picture of grandma Maggie.

Day 6 unconventional

I had a busy day today which is why I am just posting this now and why these are the only pictures I have of my outfit.

My unconventional was not that great. I put a scarf under my belt, and wore a really warm dress. Big mistake.

I started the day off cleaning the church with the youth. Later I went to the temple with my fellow young women leaders and their husbands only to discover my recommend had expired ( you can't go in the temple without one). It was sad, I almost cried. So I walked across the street to my friend Rachel's and hung out there until they were done and then we went to lunch. Then the girls went to the Hello There House meet and greet. It was so nice to sit and visit with some great ladies. by the time I got home I was exhausted. Just been taking it easy tonight. A night swim may be in order.
Good night.

Day 5

Belted
I actually have been wearing belts a lot so to keep it a challenge I did a double belt.

And I like it.

I took off the leggings to see if it would work as a dress. It is a tad bit too short for me.
I may take out the hem and see if that helps. Or add a strip of fabric to the bottom. Or just wear leggings:)
Tomorrow I am going to the temple, I hope that what I want to wear will go along with the challenge.

Gracie did a good job with the pictures today, huh?

Day 4 color blocking

I really love green. This is one of the few solid color shirts I have. And very light blue skirt is one of my favorites. Getting a good picture of these things is tricky. This was taken by my six year old.

When I got home from dropping him off at school I switched to a white belt. I still don't know which I like better. But I love the green and blue combo.

Sorry about the blurry, this was taken by my 4 year old.

On another note,
I can't believe it is Thursday already this week had flown by!

Day 3

Today is pattern mixing. This was hard for me. Not because I don't like or don't want to do it, but because I don't have a ton of options. I have a few patterned skirts and that is it as far as the bottoms go. I could have done a patterned cardigan, but it is too hot for that. Let's do this again in the fall (I mean, when it cools off).
I like the outfit, just not on me. The horizontal stripes make my hips look wide...really wide. I don't think I will be keeping it.

Also I wanted you to know Saturday is the Hello There House meet n' greet!
I will be teaching at the event in October and am very excited about it. It is going to be a really good time. If you are curious about it, or just want to get out of the house and make friends with some classy people, come to the meet n' greet. That is what I did and I had a lot of fun.
